What is testosterone?
Testosterone is an important sex hormone (androgen), which is found in both sexes, though it does differ in concentration and function in men and women. As with all androgens is the basic structure of testosterone from androstane (19 C atoms). The precursor of testosterone, the progestogens (21 carbon atoms) or DHEA.
Testosterone is a word that is derived from testis (testicle) and steroid. It was created by Ernst Laqueur, who first isolated from bull testicles. In men, testosterone is produced, for the most part under the influence of LH (luteinizing hormone) in the interstitial Leydig in the testes. The adrenal cortex is indeed small amounts of other androgens, but only very little testosterone. In women, the ovaries produce small amounts of the adrenal cortex and Testosterone. In the biosynthesis of the organism, the precursor of cholesterol (precursor) is, or the progesterone an intermediate for the synthesis of testosterone
Testosterone has a direct effect?
Testosterone has a direct effect on the testicles. It is bound to a protein transported through the blood and many other target organs that have receptors for this hormone. The transport protein called sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG). In the body, a part of testosterone by the enzyme 5α-reductase to the biologically more active dihydrotestosterone (DHT is metabolized). About Testosterone inhibits a negative feedback in the pituitary gland secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) and in the hypothalamus of GnRH, which is also called gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH).
Testosterone is transported via the Androgenbindungsprotein (ABP), the Sertoli cells into the seminiferous tubules. It causes the maturation of spermatids to sperm (see also testicular function). In addition, the effect of testosterone in males during puberty, the development of the penis, scrotum, the accessory sex glands and secondary sex characteristics in adults and provides for the maintenance of these characteristics.
Outside of the sex organs of the hormone promotes the growth of body hair and the beard (but not the Kopfhauptbehaarung, also see hair loss) and has an anabolic, that is, muscle-building effect. A high testosterone mirror promotes the emergence and the increase of sexual desire (libido), and generally drive, perseverance and love of life "as well as dominant and aggressive behavior. As ethological effects were in animals showing off, fighting behavior and Begattungsdrang explored and observed. These are under natural circumstances, mostly good behavior. This was to be followed by castration and hormone intake in animals (powerful, aggressive stallions proved to be gentle, adapted geldings).
Why Aging Women Need Testosterone:
By Edward R. Rosick, DO, MPH, MS
Ways to increase testosterone naturally
Many women are still leery of hormonal supplements such as testosterone. Others do not have the luxury of a doctor, is also well versed in integrative therapies. Most mainstream doctors still cling to the idea that testosterone is a hormone of the people and supplementing with it has no place in the health of women, in contrast with the wealth of scientific evidence. The good news is that there are some proven, natural way a woman can safely increase their testosterone levels for optimal health in their forties, fifties, sixties and beyond.
Several studies have shown that resistance exercise can increase men's testosterone levels. Some less known but equally impressive studies show that exercise can also be a greater participation of women testosterone levels, whether 20 or 60 years old. A study in 2001 examined the acute effects of resistance exercise in 47 women aged from 19 to 25.10 after only six sets of repetitive movements squat exercises, significant increases were observed in both free and total testosterone levels. A study in 2002 examined the effects of endurance and resistance exercise in hormonal levels, including testosterone, in women 19-69 years increased age.11 As in the previous study, testosterone levels significantly, with women either endurance or resistance exercise have independent their age. Another study in 2003 that the hormonal effects of high-impact physical activity in early postmenopausal women aged 25 53-59 showed a significant and acute increase in testosterone levels following exercise.12
Testosterone levels:
Testosterone is generally considered the male hormone, which for the normal development of male sex and reproductive organs, and the development of secondary male sex characteristics, including hair growth (and loss) patterns, thickening of the vocal cord, muscle development, and other characteristics. Normal testosterone levels are necessary for maintaining healthy mood, energy, bone marrow production, fertility, and sexual desire. Women also need testosterone, whose levels do not have as high as those of the men, but their optimal levels should be sufficient to ensure good health. Testosterone levels need to remove the balance, migraine in men and women, too.
Measurement of testosterone levels is a part of the male and female hormone panels, for determining the amount of the other steroid hormones. The optimum range for men is 650-827 ng / dl in women, 60-76 ng / dl.
Testosterone supplements are in oral form (capsules, tablets), by injection, through a transdermal patch, and in a gel. I recommend the latter form because it is an individual dose, and is easy to use. While it is necessary to balance testosterone levels with the other steroid hormones as part of The Cure Migraines, to achieve that balance is often without a single person, the use of a testosterone supplement (usually in younger people). can convert the case to correct women, levels of DHEA into testosterone when the body recognizes that the levels are low. So, careful use of DHEA (a precursor of testosterone) can help restore some women reach their optimum level, while others need a testosterone supplement, at least temporarily.
Lack testosterone in men: reasons:
A lack of testosterone can have different causes. On the one hand, a reduction of testosterone concentration in a normal age, caused by physical changes appearance. Not only is the mirror of testosterone, but also the blood levels of other substances, such as female sex hormones (estrogen) decreases. On the other hand, there are certain circumstances that can foster a testosterone deficiency. In addition, some diseases are known which are associated with a lack of testosterone in combination.
From about the 20th Age decreases the level of the protein-bound and free testosterone in men The total testosterone in the body takes up about one percent annually, a free testosterone by two percent. This can result in a shortage of testosterone. But there are older men with hormone levels that are in the normal range. Mainly decreases with age, the free, not bound to SHBP and therefore, biologically active testosterone in the male body. This is due to an increasing concentration of the binding protein SHBP. Furthermore, the total production of testosterone decreased in the testes.
The reasons for the lack of testosterone are due to genetic differences but depend as well on the way of life of those affected. Thus influence obesity, stress, alcohol, drugs, certain illnesses or medications (such as psychotropic drugs, corticosteroids), the testosterone deficiency. The hormone levels affecting diseases include chronic diseases, infectious diseases, liver and kidney diseases, atherosclerosis and diabetes mellitus. The aging process with reduced levels further, the testosterone-regulating hormones, has also an impact on the lack of testosterone in old age.
Lack testosterone in men: symptoms:
The complaints to the lack of testosterone can vary widely, but they are mostly low. Not all symptoms are clearly understood. There are parallels between aging and other symptoms with testosterone deficient associated diseases (eg Prader-Willi syndrome). This suggests that testosterone seems to lack the reason for different changes in old age:
Testosterone deficiency:
* Loss of muscle mass and strength * weight gain with redistribution of body fat around the waist * reduction in sexual desire * tiredness, fatigue or listlessness * reduction in sperm production * depression and anxiety * decrease in bone density (osteoporosis) * anemia * Reduce the memory function
Testosterone in men deficient diagnosis:
The diagnosis of a lack of testosterone is to place easy. The suspicion arises usually from the described symptoms, which are exactly obtained in a conversation. A physical examination provides information on body composition and muscle strength of the individual. The testosterone deficient mirror can be determined through blood tests in suspected testosterone. With the possible link between testosterone deficiency and osteoporosis, it is useful to determine the bone density by means of imaging techniques such as X-ray or computed tomography (CT).
